John simply wants Rough Edge to be the most exciting adventure company. Full stop. Rough Edge is now a thriving group of dedicated, fun, passionate outdoor experts, capable of virtually any adventure, virtually anywhere. John’s previous career saw him travel all over the world, he has a keen interest in languages and culture, is an active environmentalist and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Qualifications: ML, REC First Aid, Trail Cycle Leader, Level One Paddlesport and Orienteering Coach

Ed Boyden Ed has the rare ability to help you keep going even when it’s really hard work! He’s an ML, SPA, CWA, Paddlesport Coach and an all-round nice guy!

Dan Lane

Dan is not only a climber and mountaineer, but also a Bubbleologist, proving that some chemists can also climb hills… Dan is an ML, holds the SPA and is an aspirant Winter ML too.





Iona Pawson Iona is the funnest, friendliest, fastest and fittest person you’ll meet in the mountains. Not only super-qualified in mountaineering and climbing to MIA level, Iona is a winter Ski Guide specialising in awesome ski routes and based in Verbier throughout the winter. ML, SPA, Paddlesport L3, Winter ML, IML, MIA

Craig Letham Craig is passionate about climbing and mountaineering. He is also slightly fanatical about kit. Don’t get him talking about lightweight fabrics, you may never get away! ML, SPA, Winter ML.











Cath Wilson Cath is a qualified teacher and an awesome outdoor instructor with a clutch of qualifications: IML, MIA, Winter ML, REC First Aid Trainer, Paddlesport Coach Level 2













Pete Catterral
Pete is one of the UK’s best paddlers and paddling coaches. He has paddled rivers most of us would run a mile from. Pete is Rough Edge’s paddling expert, providing solid, sound advice on all matters relating to safety and discovery on the water.

Bernadette Eccleston
Bern is the back office, the front of house, the side swipe, the middle centre and the goalie. When you ring Rough Edge it is most likely your problem or question will be solved or answered by Bern. Richard Allen
Richard is an ML aspirant who is Rough Edge’s Home Contact Manager. Richard was ground control for the extensive China Recce and has experience leading groups in mountains all over the UK . Richard is First Aid qualified.











Pete Walter
Pete is responsible for press and public relations. he is also second in command of our Home Contact operation. Pete’s calm and considered approach make him the perfect choice for media relations.Peter










Alan Ward In 2006 and 2012 Alan was one of ten worldwide finalists in the Wanderlust Travel Magazine’s Top Guide Awards competition. He is an International Mountain Leader and Mountain First Aid Trainer.
Recent treks and expeditions include: Nepal – Everest Base Camp, Nepal – Mera Peak (6,476m), Morocco – Toubkal (4,167m), India – Stok Kangri (6,153m),  Taiwan – Jade Mountain (3,952m)
Alan works closely with Rough Edge.

Lindsay O’Hagan
Lindsay is our window on the outside world. He is our marketing manager, our voice of reason and our reason not to get too excited sometimes! Lindsay is the inspiration behind the Rough Edge logo and communications.

Jimmy Greenwood
Jimmy is a chief designer for graphics, print and web. He designed the t shirt you will be wearing – say hello!
